Q. Is a stretch ceiling an alternative to a suspended ceiling?
A. The stretch ceiling at room temperature technique presents a number of advantages compared to the suspended ceiling technique:
- quick installation, with no rubble or staining
- aesthetic, matt and homogenous surface with no joints
- possible to integrate lights and other appliances
- very economical alternative to a suspended ceiling
Q. Is the ALYOS coating made of PVC?
A. No. The coating is a polyester weft coated with polyurethane, 15 times more resistant than a PVC film. ...
Q. Is a stretch ceiling the same as a PVC false ceiling?
A. A stretch ceiling lining is an excellent alternative to a PVC false stretch ceiling.
This alternative ceiling technique presents a number of advantages compared to the PVC technique:
- room temperature installation (ambient temperature)
- no need to use a heat canon
- easier to take measurements
- quick installation
- no need to move plants and other objects that may be affected by intense heat
- homogenous matt surface with no joints or soldering
- high ceiling tension eliminates any unevenness in the ceiling
Q. What colours are available for ALYOS ceiling linings?
A. 7 colours are available: white stucco, beige dolce, green toscana, beige forte, blue azzuro, grey fumato and black matt.
ALYOS Design products with digital printing are also available.
Q. Where can I put an ALYOS ceiling?
A. ALYOS ceilings are adapted to all kinds of rooms: Bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom.
The choice of colour depends on the type of room and its decoration.
The ceilings are water-proof and damp-proof. They can easily be installed in wet rooms and are easy to clean in kitchens.
ALYOS ceilings can also be painted (acrylic paint).
Q. Does the ceiling float when there is a draft in the room?
A. No, because the high tension of the lining ensures its stability.
Q. Is my new ALYOS ceiling hard-wearing?
A. Although very thin (0.35 to 0.39mm) the ALYOS lining has a very high resistance.
You would really have to hit it with a pointed or sharp object to pierce it.
Q. What is the sag of a 5m-wide ceiling?
A. The sag is very small at around 0.5 to 1.5cm across the entire width. It is not visible to the naked eye.
Q. Can ALYOS ceilings be installed in areas open to the public?
A. ALYOS ceilings have an Australia & New Zealand Standard
- Fire Rating AS/NZS 3837:1998 It meets safety requirements for public access buildings (PAB).
Q. How much will the height of my ceiling decrease?
A. The loss of height caused by the installation of a ceiling lining is a minimum of 1 cm.
If you are planning to have spotlights the plenum must have a minimum height of 7cm to allow for the spotlight fitting. The spotlight fitting holds the spotlight, its cabling and the transformer etc.
The height of the ceiling may be reduced by 20, 30 and 40cm or more if required. In particular this makes it possible to include heat insulation material. Or even to reduce the size of the room.
Q. How will my ceiling lining perform over time?
A. Your ceiling will look the same as the day it was installed, with the minimum of maintenance.
In dirty rooms (kitchens for example) cleaning every two to five years will be sufficient. Your ALYOS ceiling will be a lot less dirty than the same surface treated with paint.
Q. How are the ALYOS profiles fixed around the periphery of the room?
A. The profiles are stuck and fixed mechanically using screws, pegs and staples, depending on the type of support.
Q. Will my ceiling contribute to effective heat insulation?
A. No, the thinness of a single ALYOS lining means that it will not be insulating.
However, it is possible to install traditional thermal insulation in the plenum, even a very thick one, which will be hidden by the ALYOS ceiling. In this case the whole of the “ALYOS ceiling + insulation” system makes a very good thermal insulation solution.
Q. How is the lining installed?
A. For widths greater than 5m an intermediate section is installed using a discrete double joint.
The 2 linings are fixed into the same section.
Q. Can I integrate spotlights or keep a pendant fitting with the ALYOS ceiling?
A. ALYOS ceilings can be fitted with any kind of lighting, like low voltage, recessed spotlights or fibre optic lighting systems.
It is also possible to reinstall the existing pendant fitting and recessed loudspeakers or ventilation openings, etc.
Q. Can the lining be painted? With what?
A. Yes, by projection using acrylic paint.
Q. Can ALYOS ceilings withstand very high or very low temperatures?
A. Yes. The tension of the ALYOS ceiling remains optimum at a temperature range between - 15°C and + 40°C. The covering will not change.
Q. Will the installation make a mess of my interior?
A. No, installation is very clean. Intervention rarely takes longer than a day and only produces a minimum of dust.
